Job Summary
Join our customer's team as a Set and Exhibit Designer and play a pivotal role in shaping immersive environments for a variety of productions and exhibitions. Leverage your expertise in Autodesk AutoCAD and passion for storytelling to translate scripts, ideas, and research into compelling physical spaces. This position is ideal for design professionals who excel in both creative conceptualization and clear communication, and who thrive in a remote, collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed set and exhibit designs by analyzing scripts, budgets, research findings, and location specifications.
- Prepare rough drafts as well as precise scale working drawings—including floor plans and constructions—using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
- Create preliminary renderings and comprehensive layouts for proposed exhibits, specifying materials, construction methods, and technical aspects such as lighting and special effects.
- Read and interpret scripts to determine location, set, and design requirements, ensuring each project’s unique needs are met creatively and practically.
- Submit designs and plans for stakeholder approval, adapting concepts to align with feedback, budgetary constraints, and fabrication requirements.
- Collaborate with other creative and technical team members to ensure cohesive visual storytelling throughout the production or exhibit space.
- Maintain meticulous documentation and clear communication throughout the design process, from ideation to execution.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD with experience preparing technical drawings and renderings for sets or exhibits.
- Strong creative vision paired with technical expertise in scenic and exhibit design.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate remotely.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret scripts and research information to inform design choices and practical construction details.
- Capacity to balance creative ambition with project budgets, timelines, and logistical limitations.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-driven, with a passion for delivering innovative solutions.
- Experience preparing documentation for construction teams, including diagrams and material specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience designing sets or exhibits for live events, film, television, or museums.
- Familiarity with other design software or visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Background in project management or cross-functional team collaboration within the creative industries.
