Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL-based applications in alignment with customer requirements and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with business analysts and other developers to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Conduct detailed code reviews and debugging, ensuring the highest level of quality and reliability.
- Identify and resolve issues within existing COBOL programs to improve performance and user experience.
- Document new and updated processes, workflows, and system changes with clarity and precision.
- Participate actively in team meetings, providing technical insights and progress updates.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes and standards within the team.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in COBOL development within enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of COBOL programming, including structured coding and debugging techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in documenting technical information and system processes in a clear, concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a remote, cross-functional team.
- Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in delivering quality solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mainframe environments and legacy systems integration.
- Familiarity with financial services, insurance, or similar verticals relying on COBOL-based infrastructure.
- Knowledge of complementary technologies such as JCL, CICS, or DB2.
