Job Title: Technology Transfer Officer

Job Summary:

Join our customer's team as a Technology Transfer Officer and play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between groundbreaking federally funded research and commercial innovation. You will spearhead the pipeline from research outcomes to patent filing and licensing, ensuring robust Bayh-Dole compliance and maximum societal impact for scientific discoveries.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the end-to-end technology transfer process, from invention disclosure to patent filing, licensing, and commercialization.
  2. Interface with principal investigators, university TTOs, and federal lab scientists to assess market potential and commercial pathways for new technologies.
  3. Evaluate intellectual property portfolios and negotiate licensing agreements with startups, SMEs, and industry partners.
  4. Maintain rigorous compliance with Bayh-Dole Act guidelines, ensuring timely reporting and proper documentation of federally funded inventions.
  5. Coordinate with legal counsel to secure and protect intellectual property rights.
  6. Draft and review all necessary compliance reports, contracts, and technology transfer documentation.
  7. Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders through high-quality written and verbal channels, ensuring information is accessible and actionable.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Proven track record managing technology transfer pipelines at universities or federal labs, specifically from federally funded research.
  2. In-depth understanding of licensing processes and negotiation strategies.
  3. Direct experience with Bayh-Dole Act compliance and federal reporting requirements.
  4. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  5. Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property management, particularly in academic or government settings.
  6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in compliance documentation.
  7. Ability to thrive in a remote, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree (JD, PhD, or MBA) in a relevant scientific or legal discipline.
  2. Experience securing partnerships between academia, federal labs, and private industry.
  3. Certification in licensing or technology transfer (e.g., CLP, RTTP).
