Job Title: Social Sciences Expert

Job Type: Part-time (20 Hours per week)

Location: India (Preference for New Delhi based candidates)

Job Summary:

Join our team as a Social Sciences Expert and play a pivotal role in shaping how AI systems understand the rich, nuanced realities of everyday life in India. You will leverage your deep expertise in social sciences to build and evaluate culturally grounded datasets, ensuring that large language models move beyond Western-centric assumptions toward authentic Indian contexts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design prompts and rubric-based tasks to rigorously test AI systems on their understanding of Indian societal norms, institutions, and everyday interactions.
  • Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, sensitivity, and depth in interpreting India-specific social realities including class, caste, gender, regional differences, and informal networks.
  • Identify and document edge cases and nuanced scenarios often overlooked in standard datasets, providing insight into complex cultural dynamics.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to build culturally salient evaluation datasets for language models.
  • Produce high-quality analytical reports and written documentation to capture findings and recommendations.
  • Continuously refine evaluation criteria and tasks based on emerging trends and observations from ongoing analyses.
  • Contribute to project design discussions, bringing a critical, context-driven perspective to all stages of dataset development.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or related Social Sciences (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in research, fieldwork, policy, or applied social analysis with India-focused expertise.
  • Proven strength in qualitative analysis and analytical writing in English.
  • Exceptional attention to nuance, ambiguity, and cultural variation within Indian society.
  • Demonstrated ability to consider and analyze real-life edge cases beyond surface-level cultural markers.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to clear, precise, and impactful documentation.
  • Available to work at least 20 hours per week, with full-time engagement preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant social science discipline.
  • Direct experience working on India-based cultural, behavioral, or institutional analysis projects.
  • Experience collaborating on interdisciplinary or AI-focused initiatives.
