Job Summary:
Join our customer's team as an expert Patent Attorney specializing in intellectual property within the US, with a focus on federal IP matters. You will play a pivotal role in advising, managing, and safeguarding critical IP assets, supporting high-profile projects, and navigating complex federal compliance environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and review government interest statements for federally funded inventions.
- Provide strategic counsel on patent law, IP rights, and compliance with US federal regulations.
- Handle IP disputes involving federal agencies, universities, and other stakeholders.
- Advise clients on issues related to federal IP compliance and technology transfer.
- Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the US and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
- Perform due diligence on IP portfolios and assess freedom-to-operate, patentability, and licensing risks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, delivering clear written and verbal guidance on complex legal issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited US law school and admitted to practice before the USPTO.
- Expertise in US patent law and intellectual property rights, particularly in the federal sector.
- Demonstrated experience with government interest statements and federal IP compliance.
- Proven track record managing IP disputes between federal agencies, research institutions, and universities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical legal concepts clearly.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in drafting legal documents and advising stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple complex projects in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience advising on Bayh-Dole Act compliance or federal technology transfer regulations.
- Background in a STEM field or previous work with technology-driven organizations.
- Prior involvement in negotiating research or collaborative agreements with government entities.
