Job Title: Audio Engineering Specialist


Job Type: Part-time or Full-time, contract (~15 to 40 hs a week)

Join our customer’s team as an Audio Engineering Specialist, where your expertise will directly support next-generation AI audio technologies. You’ll play a critical role in identifying and classifying audio artifacts, providing high-quality annotation and actionable feedback, and shaping the quality of AI-driven audio products. Key Responsibilities

  1. Listen to short audio clips and expertly classify audio artifacts such as noise, clipping, echo, misalignments, and compression-related issues.
  2. Produce precise annotations and detailed corrective feedback to support machine learning model improvement.
  3. Review and QA annotation work created by other contributors, ensuring consistency and accuracy across the team.
  4. Document edge cases with clear notes and illustrative examples, contributing to shared annotation guidelines.
  5. Collaborate closely with the training team to refine annotation procedures and drive inter-annotator agreement.
  6. Utilize and provide feedback on browser-based annotation tools and workflow optimizations.
  7. Maintain rigorous quality standards in every task, ensuring data integrity and effective communication at all times.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  1. Proven experience in audio annotation, descriptive captioning, transcription, podcast/audio editing, or audio QA.
  2. Strong background in audio restoration with advanced proficiency in tools such as iZotope RX, Cedar Studio, Adobe Audition, or similar.
  3. Deep familiarity with audio engineering terminology and common recording/production faults.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use browser-based annotation tools and follow structured workflows.
  5. Keen ear for subtle audio details and anomalies; prior experience as a reviewer or annotator is highly valued.
  6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with particular care for clarity in notes and discussions.
  7. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous experience with Ultra Descriptive Captioner or similar audio annotation projects.
  2. Background in professional audio engineering, audio captioning, or transcription review.
  3. Track record of contributing to the development of annotation or QA guidelines.
